ASCII
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), generally pronounced {{IPA|}}, (ASK-ee) is a character set and a character encoding based on the Roman alphabet as used in modern English (see English alphabet). ASCII codes represent text in computers, in other communications equipment, and in control devices that work with text. Most often, nowadays, character encoding has an ASCII-like base.
