Arthur Newton

Wally Hayward won the Comrades Marathon five times, the first as a 21 year old in 1930. He is the second youngest ever winner of the race, the youngest being H. P Masterton Smith who won it in 1932 at the age of 19.

Wally Hayward ran and won again in 1950, 51, 1953 when he became the first runner to finish in under 6 hours, and 1954 when he won as a 45 year old to become the oldest runner to win the race untill Vladimr Kotov won at age 46.
