~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Armus is an unknown being in the form of a tar-like monster. At first the away teem dose not recognize ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Armus as a life form because he does not register as such on the tricorder when Data scans him. He seems to be an extremely powerful being, easily able to "suck the life" from Lt. Yar. However, he is reveled to have weaknesses brought out by him confronting the truth behind his evil nature. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ All we know of Armus's past is that he was apparently the incarnation of the evil nature of a group of higher beings, abandoned with the hope of ridding that culture of its evil. It is reveled that the sadistic nature of Armus is driven by his extreme boredom of being an immortal trapped on a desolate planet. By tricking Armus into confronting his past by promising him passage on the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), Captain Jean-Luc Picard was able to weaken him enough for the Enterprise to beam out the survivors of the crash. Then the Enterprise destroyed the wreckage of the crash and left the planet without fulfilling the captain's promise, although this action may be justified due to the creature seeming to be evil with no redeeming qualities. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The fate of Armus is uncertain although it is likely that he is still alive and sustaining a state of agonizing boredom and loneliness due to his great power. The planet is quarantined so to keep other starships and crews from enduring the same fate. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
