Arlington is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city had a total population of 332,969, which makes it the seventh largest city in Texas. A more recent population estimate by the city is approximately 347,607 http://www.ci.arlington.tx.us/planning/stats.html. Arlington is within the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan division of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area, a title designated by the U.S. Census, and is colloquially referred to as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Demographics
As of the census{{GR|2}} of 2000, there are 332,969 people, 124,686 households, and 85,035 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,341.7/km² (3,475.0/mi²). There are 130,628 housing units at an average density of 526.4/km² (1,363.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 67.69% White, 13.73% Black or African American, 0.55% Native American, 6.01% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 8.94% from other races, and 2.94% from two or more races. 18.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 124,686 households out of which 38.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% are non-families. 24.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.20.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 35.7% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 6.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $47,622, and the median income for a family is $56,080. Males have a median income of $38,612 versus $29,339 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,445. 9.9% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.3% of those under the age of 18 and 6.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
