They are particularly associated with contemporary music, and have given more than 300 first performances. They have given world premieres of music by Harrison Birtwistle, John Cage, Elliott Carter, Brian Ferneyhough, Sofia Gubaidulina, György Ligeti, Conlon Nancarrow, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kjell Perder and Iannis Xenakis.
