Architectural acoustics is the science of controlling quality of sound in buildings.

The main concerns of architectural acoustics are:

  • Building's Noise Insulation Envelope
  • Inter-space noise control
  • Building's Internal Acoustics
  • ACMV Noise control in Buildings (also HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning))
  • Building's Noise Insulation Envelope - the science of limiting and/or controlling noise transmission from building exterior to interior and vice versa. The main noise paths are roofs, eaves, walls, windows, doors and penetrations. Sufficient control ensures space functionality.

Inter-space noise control - the science of limiting and/or controlling noise transmission from one building space to another to ensure space functionality and speech privacy. The main noise paths are room partitions, ceiling panels, doors, windows, trunking, ducting and other penetrations.

Building's Internal Acoustics - the science of controlling and/or tuning room (chamber, halls etc) reverberation time and echo to ensure speech intelligibility. Inadquate control leads to deterioration of the sound quality within the space.

ACMV Noise control in Buildings - the science of control noise produced by ACMV (air conditioning and mechanical ventilation) systems in buildings. Inadequate control may lead to high and annoying background noise levels within the space.
