Aon Center (Los Angeles)


 

The Aon Center (707 Wilshire Boulevard) was the tallest building in Los Angeles until 1989 when the US Bank Tower surpassed it. It was also the tallest building in the United States west of the Mississippi River from 1973-1982 and was surpassed by Texas Commerce Tower. Built in 1973, the Aon Center building is 858 feet (262 meters) high, and has 62 floors. It was originally known as the United California Bank Building during the 1970s and later known as the First Interstate Building during the 1980s and early 1990s.

On May 4, 1988 there was a fire on the 12th floor that damaged 5 floors, injured 40 people, and left 1 dead.
