Anwar Robinson


 

Anwar F. Robinson (born April 21, 1979) is an American singer and was a contestant on the fourth season of American Idol.

Robinson grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. He first started to sing when he was eight, and trained as a tenor in classical technique in college for about four years under Dr. Scott J. McCoy, graduating in 2001 from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey. Some time later, Robinson became a junior high school music teacher, settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Robinson is currently a member of a local group called The Perfect Combination.

In 2005, Robinson successfully auditioned for American Idol in Washington D.C. He proceeded to the Top 12, but was voted off on April 20, after his performance of Earth Wind and Fire's "September" during 1970s dance music week. Only six contestants remained after Robinson's departure.
