Anthony Asquith


 

The Honourable Anthony Asquith (November 9,1902-February 20, 1968) was a respected British film director. He was the son of Herbert Henry Asquith, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during World War I, and Margot Asquith and he was known as 'Puffin'.

His productions include The Browning Version (1951) starring Michael Redgrave and The Winslow Boy (1948) (both of which have been remade more recently). He also directed a film version of the George Bernard Shaw play Pygmalion in 1938, which featured Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller and predated the better known adaptation My Fair Lady (1964).
