Alex Kapranos (Huntley) was a part-time lecturer in IT for a couple of years until June 2003, when Franz Ferdinand, the Glasgow indie rock band, of which he was lead singer/guitarist, signed a recording contract with Domino Records (UK).

The main building is at Hatfield Drive, with a 4-storey classroom block, workshops, a multimedia library and nursery. There is major annexe at Balshagray and 2 resource centres in Milton and Ruchill.
