Anne de Beaujeu


 

Anne de France (or Anne de Beaujeu) (April 1461, Genappe14 November 1522, Saint-Vincent-de-Salers), was a Princess and Regent of the Kingdom of France.

The eldest daughter of Louis XI, she was married at the age of twelve to Pierre de Beaujeu, who later became Duke of Bourbon.

During the minority of Charles VIII, her brother, she held the regency from 14831491, together with her husband. She maintained, against the Orleans party, the royal authority and the unity of the kingdom.

She made the final treaty ending the Hundred Years' War.

She married her brother, Charles VIII, to Anne of Brittany in order to take Brittany to the French crown.

Her only daughter, Susan of Bourbon, married another Bourbon, Charles of Montpensier, Constable of France and Duke of Bourbon, but remained childless and predeceased her mother. When Anne herself died, her own line and that of her father went extinct.

Her heir-general was her aunt's descendant, Anne of Laval, married with Lord of La Tremoille.
