It is a broader term than Anglo-Saxon, which strictly speaking applies only to people of English descent. The Anglo-Celtic group specifically includes people of predominantly Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Cornish, Channel Islands and Manx backgrounds, as well as other British ethnic minorities. A large number of Anglo-Celtic Australians, perhaps a majority, are descended from more than one of these groups. It is also common for Australians of other North-Western European backgrounds(eg Dutch) to be mistakenly labelled Anglo-Celtic based on physical appearance.
