Anglo-American relations
Anglo-American relations are bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and the United States. The special relationship is a term used to emphasize the warmth and cordiality of the relationship and used to describe Anglo-American relations in a positive light; however, Anglo-American relations have gone through times of war and conflict as well as peace and close cooperation. In fact the term is rarely, if at all, used by the diplomats of either side.

The term transatlantic relations as used in the United Kingdom usually refers to Anglo-American relations, as the United States and the United Kingdom lie on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. As used in the United States, the term can refer to either Anglo-American relations or to relations between the United States and Europe (see the article transatlantic relations for more information).
