An American Werewolf in London
An American Werewolf in London is a horror film released in 1981, written and directed by John Landis. It stars David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter. Although there are several straightforward horror elements to the plot, it is also knowingly funny and ironic, an example of a tongue-in-cheek humour.
In-jokes and cameos
This film contains a number of in-jokes and cameos. In a scene in a pub called The Slaughtered Lamb, David and Jack meet local people including chess players Brian Glover and Rik Mayall. A running joke by director Landis occurs when the werewolf runs riot in Piccadilly Circus, London: the porn cinema is playing a movie called See You Next Wednesday. References to this film appear in many of Landis' films. The man being hit by the red double decker bus is Landis himself. One of the London policemen helping to chase and kill the werewolf is John Altman who subsequently achieved fame as "Nasty" Nick Cotton in Eastenders.

As in most John Landis movies, Frank Oz makes a cameo. Playing two roles, he plays a doctor in the hospital and, in a dream sequence, he plays Miss Piggy. Also in the same dream sequence, Jim Henson makes a cameo playing Kermit the Frog when David's younger siblings watch a fake episode The Muppet Show. Both Muppet characters are credited as themselves in the credits.
