Amrit


 

In general Hinduism, Amrit is an elixir that grants its drinker immortality.

In Sikhism the word Amrit means ambrosial nectar.

It is also a word used for the holy water used in the baptism ceremony by the Sikhs. It is believed that this word is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Amrita', and the ceremony requires the drinking of the Amrit.

The water is created mixing a number of soluble ingredients, including sugar, and is then mixed with a Kirpan (a type of sword). It is believed that some of the metal ions that dissolve in the water, and this is said to spur the onset of aggression and adrenaline to make the person taking Amrit feel capable, inspired and ready to fight.
