Ammonium hydroxide

Ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is a name sometimes given to an aqueous solution of ammonia. Ammonia has the ability to dissociate in water, and hence ammonium and hydroxide ions will be present in an aqueous solution of ammonia according to the following equilibrium:

With a base ionization constant (Kb) of 1.8×10-5, in a 1M ammonia solution about 0.48% of the ammonia will be protonated to ammonium ions (equivalent to a pH of 9.4).
