Amityville, New York
Amityville is a village located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 9,441. It is best known for being the setting of the best selling book and popular movie The Amityville Horror, which is purportedly based on the real-life mass murder of the DeFeo family in 1974 at 112 Ocean Avenue. The address was since changed to "108 Ocean Avenue" in order to avoid ghost hunters and demonologists attracted by the book's ghost story. The house in question was renovated. A remake of The Amityville Horror was released in the Spring of 2005.
