Amil
Amil (an acronym for All Money Is Legal) is a female rapper (nee Amilian) who had prominence in the late '90s as a Jay-Z protegé. Her album including Aretha Franklin singing background on the first track and the hit single I Got That, a duet with Beyoncé, featuring Eve. She is multiethnic, having an African-American father, and a biracial mother, of European and Cherokee parentage. She originally hails from New York City, and was raised in all five boroughs. In 1997, she was involved with the group Major Coins, an all women group that by chance met Jay-Z, who was looking for one of the women to do vocals on his second album, Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life. After Major Coins broke up, she decided to follow a solo career with Roc-a-fella, Jay-Z's label. She released her first solo ablum "All Money Is Legal" through the Roc, but since its release in 2000, has had little studio production overall.
