Amherst Regional Middle School
Amherst Regional Middle School, commonly abbreviated as ARMS, is the seventh- and eighth-grade school serving the Massachussetts communities of Amherst, Pelham, Leverett and Shutesbury. In January 2001, through the efforts of principal Mary Cavalier, the Center for Collaborative Education named ARMS the first demonstration school for their National Turning Points Center program. This facilitates an afterschool program called Savuka which allows students to stay after class and to participate in a number of teacher-led clubs. Seventh-grade teams are nicknamed "Aqua," "Indigo," "Mahogany" and "Topaz." Eighth-grade teams are "Sapphire," "Cobalt" and "Tangerine." Since 2004, meals have been supplied by Chartwells, a major educational institution foodservice provider.
