Released in 1996, the single peaked at number one on the Hot 100 for two weeks, and reached number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. In the U.K., the single reached number three. "Always Be My Baby" was nominated for the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, but didn't win.
