Alton, Ontario
Alton is a suburban community or a town located east about 70 km NW of Toronto and about 5 km S of Orangeville on the old highway linking Orangeville and Guelph Road which is bypassed to the south and east. Alton is located in the northern part of Caledon. When the Orangeville By-Pass opened in the northeast, Highway 24 moved from Alton to south and east on Charleston Sideroad and Hurontario Street (Highway 10) and the number was renamed Highway 134 or Alton Road. Alton serves a train station with the CN line and since the abandonment of the line is the second northernmost. Forests are situated to the west especially within the Niagara Escarpment and other hills and to the southeast, farmlands covers the rest of the area around Alton. Alton is also NE of Guelph and W of Newmarket.
