All-Clad was established in 1973 after founder John Ulam discovered a unique process that uses a combination of heat and pressure that bonds three different metals into ?sandwiched? sheets. This patented ?roll-bonding? process is the basis for most of All-Clads products and allows cookware produced in this way to distribute heat evenly and efficiently. The thick aluminum core is bonded with stainless steel and anodized aluminum and runs all the way up to the lip of the utensil. In addition, handles are attached with stainless steel rivets. All-Clad is also the only American company to manufacture a complete line of cookware products from raw materials to its own rolling mill in Canonsburg Pennsylvania. All-Clad's products helped inspire interest in high end consumer cookware in the United States in spite of the relatively high cost of it?s products. Since the original three-layer construction method, All-Clad has introduced more complex bonding processes including Copper, brushed aluminum alloys and magnetic stainless steel layers.
