All-American Comics

All-American Comics was the flagship title for its publisher, also called All-American Comics. It ran for 102 issues from April 1939 to October 1948, at which time it was renamed All-American Western (this was the time that most superhero comics went out of business or began to produce fare that they or the public considered more wholesome). In 1952, the title was again changed to All-American Men of War, and was finally cancelled in 1966.

The title was purchased by National Periodicals (DC Comics) in the late 1940s, and all its creations along with it. Characters created for All-American include the Green Lantern, the Atom, Red Tornado, Doctor Mid-Nite, and Sargon the Sorceror. All American Western would add Johnny Thunder and All-American Men of War would add Johnny Cloud and the team of Gunner and Sarge.
