Alice Neel
Alice Neel (1900-1984) was a U.S. portrait painter. She was born on January 28, 1900, in Merion Square, Pennsylvania, and trained at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women and the Moore College of Art. She worked in obscurity for about 40 years before becoming recognized as an artist in the 1960s. Her most famous works are distinctive, stylized portraits that often feature her family, friends, and neighbors. She died on October 13, 1984, in New York City.
