The AdTI is most famous for its reports questioning Linux and open source software and for its public relations work for the tobacco industry. Its detractors claim that the AdTI is a freelance astroturfing organization and that these reports are written at the behest of its financial backers. While AdTI's reports are intended primarily for legislators, they are often used by newspaper editors and talk show hosts.
