Albrecht Thaer
Albrecht Daniel Thaer (1752?1828) was one of the most renowned agronomists in Germany and an avid supporter of the humus theory for plant nutrition. His often quoted book of four volumes (Grundsätze der rationellen Landwirthschaft - Principles of rational agriculture, 1809?1812) was translated into English as late as 1844 (Russell, 1952), showing that the humus theory even in the Modern Period (1800?1860) still received acceptance.
