Tomba is the first of only two winter sports athletes in the world to have obtained 50 World Cup victories (he won 15 races in the giant slalom discipline and 35 in slalom). (The other athlete with 50 WC victories is biathlete Ole Einar Bjørndalen, still active as of the 2004/05 season.)
