Alan Beith
The Rt. Hon. Alan James Beith (born April 20, 1943, Cheshire) is a British politician, and Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Berwick-upon-Tweed.

He was Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democats from 1992 to 2002, and has served as a spokesman on Home Affairs and on the Treasury and the Civil Service. He has been Berwick MP since 1973, originally for the Liberal Party, and is now the longest current serving Liberal Democrat MP and only current Liberal Democrat MP to have experience of the House of Commons in the 1970s.

He was educated at King's School, Macclesfield, Balliol College, Oxford and Nuffield College, Oxford. He was a politics lecturer at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
