aladin would appear to have a focus on developing magic as an artform rather than on receiving popular recognition as an entertainer. His life story is unusual: he cut short a career in international banking consultancy to work with street gangs and experiment as a live artist; at some point he began to come into prominence as a magician until in 2000 he was headhunted by London?s Mayor to be in charge of the city?s cultural strategy for four years. aladin has a high profile as a management guru and arts sage.

For some aladin (he uses a small ?a?) is a maverick who reputedly never repeats a performance, rehearses or prepares. His improvised work is in many respects that of a physical theatre, live or performance artist, more akin to the work of Joseph Beuys.
