Akhmat Abdulkhamidovich Kadyrov (Russian: ????? ?????????????? ??????? (August 23, 1951May 9, 2004) was the president of the Chechen Republic (elected on October 5, 2003). He was assassinated in Grozny stadium by a bomb blast under a VIP stage during a World War II memorial victory parade.

Born in Karaganda, in the Kazakh SSR, his family returned to the Tsentoroy village, Shali district in the Chechen-Ingush ASSR in April 1957. Following the breakup of the Soviet Union, he became a leader of breakaway Chechnya, but later defected from the separatist cause and became a staunchly pro-Moscow president of the Republic.
