AG-3
The AG-3 (no. Automatgevær 3) is a Norwegian version of the Heckler & Koch G3 assault rifle, It has been the standard issue for all branches of the Norwegian military since 1966. It is estimated that about 200,000 AG-3 rifles have been in use during this time.

The rifle will be replaced gradually over the next few years throughout the military.

Three candidates are under consideration to replace the AG-3:
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
- The FN F2000, manufactured by Fabrique Nationale, in Belgium
- The Heckler & Koch G36 of Germany
- The Diemaco C8 from Canada (already in use by Hærens Jegerkommando)
It is expected that the Norwegian Home Guard (no. Heimevernet) will continue to use AG-3 as their standard weapon for at least another twenty years.

At shooting events, some shooters prefer the AG-3 as opposed to a bolt-operated rifle.
