Adult Swim

Adult Swim (usually stylised on bumps) is the name for the adult-oriented television programming block on Cartoon Network, which premiered on September 2, 2001. It has since become its own channel, and shares its station number with CN in a night/day switchoff (see below).

Trivia

  • Despite lukewarm success in Japan, the series The Big O was given a second season due entirely to popularity in the U.S.A. and CN funding (although its creation and direction were still left to the Japanese creators). There are accusations that the show was cancelled because Mike Lazzo threatened to quit if it was not. There is debate over whether this is true or not.
  • In the UK, Adult Swim shows including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, , The Ripping Friends, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop were shown on CNX. However, all these shows were dropped when CNX became Toonami with only one other Adult Swim show, The Big O appearing (and subsequently disappearing) since.
  • The success of AS has inspired other cable networks, such as USA, Comedy Central, Spike TV, and TBS to begin late-night programming blocks of their own.
