Riggs made his debut on January 5 1988, losing a split decision to Steve "Broken Feather" Damon. A month later, on February 12, he fought lighthitting Norweigan prospect Terje Svenn who beat Riggs by a unanimous decision. In his next bout, Riggs would become the trivia answer to "Who did Michael Moorer beat in his pro debut?" Moorer took out Riggs in the first round on March 4 in front of a national cable audience.

Taking five months off to put himself togteher, Riggs fought David Acosta on August 6. While Acosta had lost only a week before, he had enough left over to defeat Riggs who was now 0-4. But Adrian Riggs refused to give up. On September 2, Riggs defeated fellow Svenn victim Timothy Davis by a split decision. Davis had already proven his toughness by beating Damon. Neither man would ever win a fight again. In his next fight, on November 10, Riggs lost to southpaw Bomani Parker in a unanimous decision. Having lost this fight to slip to 1-5, Riggs seemed content to retire.

However, April 8 1994, Riggs made his return to the ring only to be knocked out in four rounds in Cape Coral, Florida by Artis "The Madboxer" Pendergrass who would later become a leading heavyweight journeyman.
