Addiscombe

Addiscombe is a place in the London Borough of Croydon. It is situated just to the northeast of central Croydon, and is home to a high proportion of people who commute to Central London, owing to its proximity to the busy East Croydon railway station and Tramlink, linking Addiscombe with other parts of Croydon and Wimbledon, as well as extensive bus routes into Central Croydon and surrounding areas.

Notable parts of Addiscombe life include the Builders Arms, a brewery owned pub, and The Banana Leaf, one of London's finest South Indian/ Goan restaurants. A focal point of the Addiscombe community is the independent Claret Freehouse, near Addiscombe tram station, that has served local regulars with an extensive range of fine real ales for many years and has often won CAMRA"Best Pub" awards.

As of early 2005, several areas in Addiscombe are in the process of regeneration, notably the addition of housing to the site of the recently demolished Blackhorse Pub, which was the oldest pub in Croydon, and the demolition and renewal of church buildings on Bingham Road, in order to renovate the Church Halls and provide retirement apartments. The addition of a linear park along the disused railway lines between Dalmally Road and Morland Road will further regenerate the area.
