Aaron's 312

There are two races on the NASCAR Busch Series schedule called the Aaron's 312. They're both held in the Spring, with Atlanta Motor Speedway hosting the first one, and Talladega Superspeedway hosting the other. Of all three major NASCAR series (the Nextel Cup Series, the Busch Series, and the Craftsman Truck Series), this is the only series to feature two races of the same name.

The races' sponsor, Aaron's, is a rent-to-own chain of stores all over the United States. The reason that the 12 extra miles are tacked on to the races' distance is because a person can rent a product from Aaron's, and then, in 12 months, take full ownership of it.

The races have the same distance in miles, but it takes a different amount of laps to satisfy each distance. At Atlanta, the race takes 203 laps to complete. At Talladega, it takes 117 laps to complete.

As one can see below, each of the two races has gone through a numerous amount of name changes, and they each debuted in 1992.

The Talladega Superspeedway event actually raced as a 500-kilometer event at 117 laps from 1992 until 1997. A fan complaint led to the shortening of the race to 300 miles in 1998, but in 2002, Aaron's returned the race to a 500-kilometer event with the odd name.
