Aarhus municipality, also commonly known by its Danish spelling ?rhus municipality, is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Aarhus County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 469 km?, and has a total population of 294.954 (2005). Its Lord Mayor is Louise Gade, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Aarhus.

Neighboring municipalities are Rosenholm to the north, Hadsten, Hinnerup, and Hammel to the northwest, Galten, H?rning, and Skanderborg to the west, and Odder to the south.

Aarhus municipality will not be merged with other municipalities by January 1, 2007 as the result of nationwide Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).
