A42 road
The A42 is a major dual carriageway trunk road linking the M1 motorway at Nottingham East Midlands Airport in north Leicestershire to junction 11 of the M42 motorway. It bypasses the town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch before heading into Staffordshire.

It is, in effect, a continuation of the M42, and its junctions are numbered as such. In fact, this is the only conceivable justification for its number as it is located entirely within Zone 5.

- 12 - B4116 to Measham and B5006 Ashby-de-la-Zouch South
- 13 - A511 for Ashby-de-la-Zouch
- 14 - A453 east of Tonge for Castle Donington
- n/a - Roundabout junction with A453, west for East Midlands Airport and north for junction 24 of the M1.
The six mile £33m Measham and Ashby Bypass opened in August 1989.
