30th Irish general election

The next general election in the Republic of Ireland need not occur until 2007. However, there is some speculation that the current Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, may move to dissolve parliament early in order to catch the opposition off guard. Opinion polls show support for the government in the mid thirties and many analysts expect the next general election to be one of the most bitter and close fought in decades.
