24-7 Spyz
24-7 Spyz (pronounced "twenty-four-seven spies") are an extremely influential band from the ghettos of the South Bronx in New York City. They were unfairly compared to bands like Living Colour simply because of the color of their skin. The band is best known for mixing soul , funk, and R&B with heavy metal and punk music (one critic compared their sound to "Boyz 2 Men singing lead vocals for Black Sabbath). Though they were pioneers in the fusion of rap and metal, influencing several bands such as Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, The Roots, and Outkast, they never acheived commercial success. The Spyz broke up in 1997, but reformed in 2003 and are currently finishing their first studio album in nine years. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
