• Fastest lap: Fernando Alonso 1:30.711 (Lap 44)
• Jarno Trulli was issued a drive-through penalty because team personnel were still on the grid within 15 seconds of race start.
• David Coulthard was issued a drive-through penalty for exceeding the pit lane speed limit.
• Tiago Monteiro and Christijan Albers were issued drive-through penalties for ignoring blue flags.
• This was the first race of 2005 to use the modified single lap qualifying format (in place of the discarded two lap aggregate qualifying format)
• After being excluded for two races, the BAR Honda team returned, but were not allowed to replace their 5-week old engines.
