10 Things I Hate About You


 

10 Things I Hate About You is an American romantic comedy film, released March 31, 1999. The story is an adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, set in an American high school. Exterior shots were filmed in Tacoma and Seattle, Washington; the high school's exterior belongs to Tacoma's Stadium High School. The film was directed by Gil Junger, and its screenplay was written by writing team Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith.

Patrick's Accusations

Throughout the film, Patrick Verona is accused for doing hideous and crazy things, which include the following:

  • Eating a live duck whole (except the beak and feet)
  • Setting a state trooper on fire
  • Selling his liver for a pair of speakers
  • Spending a year in San Quentin (a California Prison).
  • These accusations lead to funny dialogues in the film, in which are the following:

    During science class when Michael tells Cameron "didn't I tell you this was pointless? Who will go out with Katarina?

  • Cameron: (looking at Patrick Verona) "Hey, hey...what about him?"
  • Michael: (shocked) "No, no...don't look at him. He's a criminal. I heard that he lit a state trooper on fire, he just spent a year in San Quentin"
  • Cameron: (smiling): "Yeah, well at least he's horny"...
  • Michael: "I heard he sold his liver for a pair of speakers on the black market"
  • After Michael's plan of using a "backer", he approaches Joey about the plan. After telling him whom the best investment is to take Katarina Stratford out, he points to Patrick

  • Joey: "That guy? I heard he ate a live duck once"
  • Michael: "Everything but the beak and feet"
  • During Physical Education, Joey approaches Patrick and his friend

  • Joey: (approaches Patrick with a friend and tries to gain Patrick's attention): "I ate some good duck last night"
  • Patrick: "Do I know you?"
  • While talking to Patrick in a biker bar, whom is playing pool on his own, Cameron and Michael talk to Patrick about some strategy

  • Michael: "Before we begin, should you be drinking alcohol when you don't have a liver?"
  • Patrick: (in a aggrivated tone) "What?"
  • Michael: (scared) "Nothing, nothing..."
